Whina featured as one of five Maori films at Human Rights exhibition in Taiwan.

Taiwan’s National Human Rights Museum and the New Zealand Commerce and Industry Office are holding an exhibition to allow more people to learn about Māori history and transitional justice. Five films are on display at the exhibition. FTV reporter Stephany Yang spoke to New Zealand Commerce and Industry Office director Mark Pearson to find out more. Five films are showcased at the exhibition, including “Whina,” a movie about the life of activist Whina Cooper. Cooper was the leader of the 1975 Maori Land March, which was the most significant Maori social movement in 1970s New Zealand. She broke gender boundaries, defended Maori rights, and fought for ancestral land.
